Responsible AI policy

AI may assist learning. It does not replace accountable human judgment.

NEXT uses AI only where the function has a defined educational purpose, a limited data flow and a clear path for human review or correction.

Permitted uses

Learning support

Drafting or adapting instructional explanations, prompts and practice activities.

Feedback support

Assisting with feedback on learner responses where the result can be reviewed or overridden.

Accessibility support

Producing text-to-speech audio and alternate explanations where appropriate.

Program configuration

Helping staff organize learning pathways without making eligibility or service decisions.

Prohibited or inappropriate uses

  • Determining guilt, risk, release, sentencing, supervision or legal strategy.
  • Diagnosing mental-health conditions or recommending treatment.
  • Making final decisions about housing, benefits, employment, discipline or program eligibility.
  • Inferring sensitive traits or generating participant profiles unrelated to learning.
  • Sending unnecessary case details, clinical notes or identity documents to an AI provider.

Human oversight and correction

AI-assisted feedback is not final professional judgment. Authorized staff can review learning evidence, and human corrections should take precedence where a result affects a learner record. Learners and partners may report inaccurate, biased or harmful output through the complaints process.

Accuracy, bias and transparency

BriteLink will distinguish AI-generated or AI-assisted functions where that distinction matters to the user. Content should be tested for factual accuracy, harmful stereotypes, inappropriate reading level and unequal treatment. High-risk decisions are outside NEXT’s intended use.

Mental health and crisis content

NEXT may teach general wellbeing, self-advocacy or help-seeking skills, but it does not diagnose, counsel or provide crisis intervention. A person in immediate danger should contact local emergency services or an appropriate crisis service. Program staff remain responsible for their organization’s crisis and safeguarding procedures.
